2nd Short + Sweet Theater Festival Manila at SM Aura Premier | September 4-27, 2015


The biggest little play festival in the world is here in Manila once again! On its second year, Short + Sweet Theater Manila will be showcasing 30 ten-minute plays, Wildcard entries and Master-Classes on September 4-6, 11-13, 18-20, 2015 at Samsung Hall, 6th floor at SM Aura Premier Mall, Taguig City. Finals will be held on September 26, while Gala Show will be held on September 27

Virgin LabFest 11: Call for Submissions (2015)


The Virgin Labfest YEAR 11 is now open for script submissions. The Virgin Labfest is an annual festival of unpublished, unstaged, untried and untested works for the theater held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This festival is a partnership project of the Writer’s Bloc, Inc., Tanghalang Pilipino, Inc. and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

This year, the Virgin Labfest will choose twelve (12) “virgin” one-act plays.The Virgin Labfest is open to submissions of the following written works:

Established in 2005, THE VIRGIN LABFEST is a laboratory festival of new plays by emerging and established Filipino playwrights and held annually at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The Virgin Labfest aims to provide Filipino playwrights a venue to present their unpublished, unstaged, untested and untried works to the theatergoing public. The Virgin Labfest is a yearly project of the Manila-based playwrights group Writer's Bloc, Inc., acclaimed theater company Tanghalang Pilipino, and the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), in cooperation with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA).

TANGHALANG PILIPINO (TP), the resident theater company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), is proud to present the 2014 Summer Theater Adventure, a month-long program of various theatrical activities in different age levels designed to unleash the creative potentials of aspiring theater artists. TP’s acting workshops have been highly-acclaimed by parents, students and educational institutions for the intensive training and excellent experience it imparts on the participants.

Auditions: Short + Sweet Manila 2014 | January 11, 2014


The Australian-based Short+Sweet Theater will be showcasing 10-minuter plays in Manila this February for the first time. Auditions will be held on January 11, 2014 at Tanghalang Hermogenes Ylagan, Faculty Center UP Diliman, Quezon City, 1-5 pm. Experience the Short + Sweet-est 10 minutes of theatre performance!

Virgin LabFest 9: Call for Submissions (2013)

The Virgin Labfest YEAR 9 is now open for script submissions. The Virgin Labfest is an annual festival of unpublished, unstaged, untried and untested works for the theater held in the middle of the year (June to July) at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. This festival is a partnership project of the Writer's Bloc, Inc., Tanghalang Pilipino, Inc. and the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

This year, the Virgin Labfest will choose nine (9) "virgin" one-act plays and one (1) full length play.

The Virgin Labfest is open to submissions of the following written works:

1.  One-act plays (maximum running time: 40 minutes)

2.  Full-length plays (minimum running time: 1 hour 20 minutes; maximum running time: 2 hours)

Philippine PEN National Conference 2012

The Philippine Center of International PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists), on the occasion of its 55th year, will hold its annual literature conference on December 6-7, 2012 (Thursday-Friday) at the Silangan Hall of Cultural Center of the Philippines, Pasay City. This event is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The theme is “The Writer as Public Intellectual.” This gathering seeks to chart how writers can influence the body politic and the critical mass, and examine the challenges they face in their mission to become social agents. 

Madam Carmen Guerrero Nakpil will be the José Rizal Lecturer. The keynote address will be delivered by Luis Teodoro. Speakers and panelists include National  Artists F. Sionil José and Bienvenido Lumbera; distinguished writers Nicanor Tiongson, Antonio Enriquez, Elmer Ordoñez, Rony V. Diaz, Charlson Ong, Angela Stuart Santiago, Melba Maggay, Tito Valiente, Michael Tan, John Nery, Jojie Tigno, Soledad Reyes, Amadis Ma. Guerrero, Ma. Luisa Torres Reyes, among others.
