KalayaRUN celebrates Independence Day at CCP Complex | June 12, 2016

KalayaRUN is a fun run celebrating the Independence Day of the Philippines. It is a run for a cause for the benefit of Piso Para Sa Kolehiyo (PPK) scholars. PPK is a non-profit project headed by missionaries whose main goal is to be able to educate young people from the unreached victims of typhoon Yolanda.

Manila Great Run Duo Road Race at Filinvest, Alabang | June 12, 2016

The Manila Great Run Duo Road Race is a unique and exciting running competition, consisting of two legs: a 10k run followed by a 5k run, with a conditioning recovery break in between. A 5k and 3k categories are also organized for non-competing runners. This will be held on June 12, 2016 at Filinvest City in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.

Ground Up Inc. is re-engineering the running landscape this year by introducing a new benchmark in competitive running – MANILA GREAT RUN: DUO ROAD RACE CHALLENGE 2016. This international event is set to raise the standard of quality running for two (2) meaningful causes.

• For the pediatric cancer patients of the Philippine General Hospital
• For the scholarship fund of high school students from select schools in Metro Manila

Prior to competing in Manila Great Run: Duo Road Race Challenge 2016, all runners are required to register on-line or on-site. The registration includes a waiver against any liability for any injury or health problem resulting from participation in the event.

The Manila Great Run has four (4) distance categories:

1. Manila Great Run Individual Competition (1st leg 10K + 2nd leg 5K = 15K)
2. Manila Great Run Team Competition: Each team will consist of two (2) members – one (1) male runner for the 10k leg and one (1) female runner for the 5K leg
3. 5K run
4. 3K run

March 15 is World Consumer Rights Day

On March 15, 1962, President John F. Kennedy formally addressed the issue of consumer rights in the US congress. He was the first world leader to do so.

On April 8 1985, the United Nations' General Assembly adopted the UN Guidelines for Consumer Protection, and approved the idea to declare March 15 to be the World Consumer Rights Day (WCRD) as a means of raising global awareness about consumer rights..

WCRD is an opportunity to promote the basic rights of all consumers, for demanding that those rights are respected and protected, and for protesting the market abuses and social injustices which undermine them.

National Geographic Channel presents "Inside Malacañang" (a Philippine documentary)

In every country, there is a home for the country's head. For the Philippines, Malacañang Palace is the home of the First Family. The current President and his/her family live there until his/her term ends. Malacañang Palace was once dubbed as a “foremost home” by Spanish governor generals. The Americans made it a social hub for the country’s elite while the Japanese transformed it into a garrison.

The Palace has undergone many changes since it was built in 1750. That is 262 years ago! But the structure still stands strong with dignity and power by the Pasig River today. One would wonder what is now inside the cordoned-off areas of the palace.

Steve Jobs (February 24, 1955-October 5, 2011) was the co-founder and CEO of Apple and formerly Pixar Animation. He was born in San Francisco, California.

A Solidarity March for Freedom of Expression in CCP

Today, August 21, 2011 (Sunday): We commemorate the 28th death anniversary of our hero, Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino (who should've been our country's President after Ferdinand Marcos) who was killed at the Manila International Airport in 1983; Skyflakes, our kitten just died this morning after suffering from almost-a-week big wound at his back because Picasso, our dog attacked and almost killed him. A big part of Skyflake's skin was ripped off; and a symbolic closing of the controversial "Kulo" art exhibition is now happening at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. People who strongly believe in free expression are gathered today at the right side entrance of CCP from 1-5pm.

Rizal Lecture Series round #2 at Yuchengco Museum (August 13 & 20)

Yuchengco Museum continues its round 2 of Rizal Lecture Series this August 2011, this time looking into the Knights of Rizal and Jose Rizal’s concept of Filipino nationhood. The series began last July 2011 as a highlight of RIZALizing the Future, an exhibit on view at the museum until October 29, 2011.

The two Rizal lectures are both held on Saturday afternoons beginning at 3 p.m.

CCP Dakdakan: KULÔ on August 5

Everyone is invited to an art forum called Dakdakan on August 5, 2011 (Friday) at 2-5pm to be held at the Bulwagang Juan Luna (CCP Main Gallery). This forum will discuss the works featured in the exhibition dubbed as Kulo. Admission is FREE.

Philippine Stagers Foundation's "Cory ng EDSA: A Filipino Musical" (July 31-Oct 16, 2011)

The Philippine Stagers Foundation (PSF) stages their newest musical play, Cory ng EDSA: A Filipino Musical, that premiered on July 16, 2011 at St. Cecilia’s Hall, St. Scholastica’s College, Manila. The musical runs until October 16, 2011.

Cory ng Edsa tells the story of Corazon C. Aquino through the eyes of Peter, a reporter who followed her life amidst all the struggles her family and our country was going through. Anyone who has lived in the 1980’s and who has witnessed the EDSA Uprising in 1986 can definitely connect to the story of Cory and how she fought for our freedom and became our country’s president.

AGITPROP is an international festival of films that promote genuine peoples' struggles all over the world. It takes the role of giving a much needed venue for films and filmmakers that dare present social realities, often silenced and confused by the dominant modes and channels of information. It is for films that take on the issue of imperialism and neoliberal globalization, liberation struggles, genuine democracy, human rights, and social justice among others.

The name of the festival takes its inspiration from the educational/cultural campaign in the Soviet Union during the 1920s after the October Revolution, when films took the role of arousing and educating the masses.

DLSU celebrates 100th year on June 16

The De La Salle community celebrates its centennial beginning today, June 16, 2011. Several events are lined up for the whole year to commemorate how the De La Salle school started in its humble abode located at 417 Nozaleda St. in Paco, Manila in 1911. It was only a house bought by Br. Adolphe Alfred, FSC, director of a Brother’s School in Barcelona, Spain on February 1, 1911. This 100th year of De La Salle schools also celebrates the achievements and successes of all Lasallians here and abroad.

February 25, 2011. The Philippines celebrates its 25th Anniversary of People Power that took place in EDSA, Manila on February 25, 1986. This historical event is also called the EDSA Uprising. It was the time when our country needed a change of leadership from the brutal hands and dictatorship of the Marcos regime.
