Call for Submission: CCP accepts literary works for ANI 40 journal

The Cultural Center of the Philippines Intertextual Division is accepting contributions to Ani 40 on the theme of “Katutubo.”

     

Tanghalang Pilipino's ANG PAG-UUSIG (The Crucible by Arthur Miller) at CCP | Sept 29-Oct 22, 2017

Ang Pag-uusig, a Filipino translation of the Tony Award-winning play “The Crucible” by world renowned playwright Arthur Miller is the second production of TP’s 31st season which will open on September 29, 2017. Playing for four weekends (every Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays), this classic American drama will close on October 22, 2017. This will be shown at Tanghalang Huseng Batute (Studio Theater) at Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP).

Call for Submission: Likhaan Journal Issue #9

The UP Institute of Creative Writing (ICW) is now accepting submissions for the 9th issue of Likhaan: The Journal of Contemporary Philippine Literature.

The Philippines' leading literary peer-reviewed journal, the Likhaan Journal is published annually with funding from the Office of the Chancellor of UP Diliman. It features the best of new and unpublished Philippine writing in English and Filipino. Submissions to the journal undergo a strict pre-screening and blind refereeing process by both the editors and a panel of referees composed of eminent writers and critics from within and outside UP.

Entries to the 2013 NCCA Writers' Prize are now being accepted, as announced by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) through its Plans, Project Formulation, and Program Division (P/PFPD) – Institutional Programs.

Likhaan 7 Journal: Call for Submission

The UP Institute of Creative Writing (ICW) is now accepting submissions for the seventh issue of Likhaan: The Journal of Contemporary Philippine Literature, the Philippines' leading literary peer-reviewed journal.

Published annually with funding by the Office of the Chancellor of UP Diliman, the journal features the best of new and unpublished Philippine writing in English and Filipino. Submissions to the journal undergo a strict pre-screening and blind refereeing process by both the editors and a panel of referees composed of eminent writers and critics from within and outside UP.

The ICW fellows and associates take turns as its issue editor. Previous editors of the journal are ICW director Jose Y. Dalisay Jr., National Artist for Literature Virgilio S. Almario, former ICW director and former UP Vice-President for Public Affairs Cristina Pantoja Hidalgo, award-winning writer Pedro ‘Jun’ Cruz Reyes, Dr. Roland Tolentino, dean of the College of Mass Communication and UP University Professor Emeritus Dr. Gémino H. Abad.

Philippine PEN National Conference 2012

The Philippine Center of International PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Essayists, Novelists), on the occasion of its 55th year, will hold its annual literature conference on December 6-7, 2012 (Thursday-Friday) at the Silangan Hall of Cultural Center of the Philippines, Pasay City. This event is supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

The theme is “The Writer as Public Intellectual.” This gathering seeks to chart how writers can influence the body politic and the critical mass, and examine the challenges they face in their mission to become social agents. 

Madam Carmen Guerrero Nakpil will be the José Rizal Lecturer. The keynote address will be delivered by Luis Teodoro. Speakers and panelists include National  Artists F. Sionil José and Bienvenido Lumbera; distinguished writers Nicanor Tiongson, Antonio Enriquez, Elmer Ordoñez, Rony V. Diaz, Charlson Ong, Angela Stuart Santiago, Melba Maggay, Tito Valiente, Michael Tan, John Nery, Jojie Tigno, Soledad Reyes, Amadis Ma. Guerrero, Ma. Luisa Torres Reyes, among others.

German Gervasio's novel "Hari Manawari" to launch on July 11

German Gervasio's first novel, Hari Manawari will be launched on July 11, 2011 at 7pm at Bookay-ukay Bookstore #55 Maginhawa St., UP Village in Diliman, Quezon City.

Part of the Tapat Journal series, Hari Manawari is edited by Dr. Edgar Calabia Samar; illustration by Rai Cruz. Included also in the book are: forum on the novels of Jun Cruz Reyes (Tutubi, Tutubi, 'Wag Kang Magpahuli sa Mamang Salbahe, Etsa-puwera) and interview with Gen Asenjo (Lumbay ng Dila).

Book Launch of "A Moment in the Sun" by John Sayles

Fully Booked had its book launch of A Moment in the Sun by John Sayles on June 25, 2011 (Saturday) at 3:00 p.m. at the Atrium G/L of Fully Booked Bonifacio High Street.

After a well-received visit in February 2011 to talk about the Philippine-American war and promote his latest flick Amigo, independent film director and author John Sayles returns to unveil yet another one of his works. A Moment in the Sun is a novel that encompasses key moments in history—including the Philippines during the Fil-Am war—and is described by the Philadelphia Inquirer as “...a strapping 935 pages, a sprawling U.S.A.-style novel that, something like the John Dos Passos classic, follows a group of characters in parallel tracks as they traverse the America of 1897, taking in the Yukon gold rush, the Spanish-American War in the Philippines, and the advent of movies.
