"Peter Pan - A Musical Adventure" by Repertory Philippines and Stages (Sept 29-Oct 30, 2011)

A thrilling musical journey to “Never Land” is set to invade the Meralco Theater beginning September 29, 2011. Sir James Barrie’s classic legend is magically brought to life by a collaborative effort of Repertory Philippines and Stages Production Specialists in the spectacular Asian premiere of Peter Pan - a Musical Adventure.

I grew up reading about Peter Pan and watching the different versions in films. The legend of Peter Pan has brought wonders to children's imagination for over 100 years now. Directed by Jaime del Mundo and Menchu Lauchengco-Yulo, this musical is a faithful new version which will be first seen in Asia, promises to be a festive adventure with stunning scenery, show-stopping performances, swashbuckling sword fights, jaw dropping and breath-taking flying scenes. This shouldn't be missed!

Peter Pan - a Musical Adventure is written by the late Willis Hall and music & lyrics by award-winning duo George Stiles and Anthony Drewe (Broadway’s Mary Poppins and Honk!) is a  charm of a musical with its ability to generate a real sense of magic and wonder.

Sam Concepcion as Peter Pan
Background
The musical opened in Denmark, Copenhagen in 1996 and won two top awards for Best Song (“When I Kill Peter Pan”) and The Orchestra's Award at the International Musical Of The Year. The production was first broadcast in 2001 as a New Year's Eve concert on BBC Radio 3 and was later presented at Festival Hall in the 2002-2003 Christmas period. Since then, Stiles & Drewe extensively revised the show for a stunning new production with its United Kingdom theatre premiere. In 2007-2008, the show played at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre, directed by Rachel Kavanaugh and a year later, it moved to the West Yorkshire Playhouse.

The musical is set in bustling Edwardian suburbia, and the normality of a children’s nursery. The magic really starts with the ingenious introduction of Tinkerbell, a tiny red dot zipping around and disrupting the toys. Peter and the Darling family are whisked away to the famous land full of colorful characters including the Lost Boys, Mermaids, Crocodile, Tiger Lily and, of course, the dastardly Captain Hook.
