4th QCinema International Film Festival in 4 venues | October 13-22, 2016


With this year’s theme, “One City for the World,” the 2016 QCinema International Film Festival (QCinema) continues its thrust as a world-class event through an interesting mix of new homegrown films and award-winning international movies.

QCinema will run from October 13 to 22, 2016. It will be held at four mall venues namely: Ayala Trinoma, Gateway Cinemas, Robinson’s Galleria, and UP Town Center. It will also hold special film forum series at the QCX, the new museum complex of the Quezon Memorial Circle.

PELÍCULA Spanish Film Festival at Greenbelt 3 | October 5-16, 2016


PELÍCULA-PELIKULA, the Spanish Film Festival, will be featuring the best of contemporary Spanish cinema at the Greenbelt 3 cinemas from October 5 to 16, 2016. Presented by Instituto Cervantes, the Embassy of Spain, and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the 2016 edition of the Spanish Film Festival will screen more than 20 films.

Bacolod City's Piaya Network showing nationwide via Cignal Cable Channel 56


Piaya Network, based in Bacolod City, was launched in a presscon held at Blue Leaf Filipinas at Aseana City in Parañaque on September 18, 2016. It was announced that the network will be shown not just within the Negros region but nationwide as well via Cignal Cable Channel 56 beginning October 1.

It is a television network airing on Sky Cable’s Channel 35 which was originally launched in August 2014.  Owned by Anthony Leo Aguirre and produced by ATP Productions, the network consists of various original TV programs and specializes in broadcast syndication all around Negros.

Tanghalang Pilipino presents "Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw" at CCP | Sept 30-Oct 16, 2016


Tanghalang Pilipino ushers in its second production for the 30th season Transformance with the enchanting, Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw at Tanghalang Huseng Batute (Studio Theater) of Cultural Center of the Philippines on September 30 to October 16, 2016.

Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-Araw, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s classic, A Midsummer Night’s Dream from Rolando Tinio’s Filipino translation, follows one of Shakespeare’s most popular works. The comedy centers on the events surrounding the marriage of Duke Theseus of Athens to the Amazon queen Hippolyta, and follows the stories of a band of fairies, a troupe of players and an Athenian love triangle between Hermia, her lover Lysander and suitor Demetrius.

1st TOFARM Songwriting Competition launched


After the very successful 1st TOFARM Film Festival comes a new competition to weave music about farmers, farming, agriculture and bountiful harvest. Universal Hervester Inc. launched the 1st TOFARM Songwriting Competition in a press conference last September 10 at EDSA Shangri-La Hotel. This competition is open to both amateur and professional composers.

“The Beatles: Eight Days a Week” explores the Fab Four's early touring years


It was 50 years ago that the Beatles performed in their last ever public concert and now, a new film looks back at the early touring years.

The Beatles final live concert at Candlestick Park, San Francisco, Aug, 29, 1966. They ripped through Little Richard’s Long Tall Sally, as they had a thousand times before, then they were off. For the last time. The Beatles, the first band to make sports stadiums their stage were turning their backs on stadiums, stages and live audiences---forever. The crowd wasn’t told, nobody knew, maybe they didn’t quite know themselves but one thing they did know: they’d had enough of it.

Rights Exchange Forum at the 37th Manila International Book Fair | September 15, 2016


On September 15, 2016, the National Book Development Board (NBDB), in partnership with the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), is hosting a one-day forum on Rights Exchange during the 37 th Manila International Book Fair in Meeting Rooms 5 & 6 at the SMX Convention Center.

The Rights Exchange Forum, which will run from 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM, aims to spur business transactions between and among industry players. It will provide a venue for content creators to interact with prospective publishers, as well as for publishers looking to develop content and trade licenses.

Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature (Palanca Awards) recognized fifty-one (51) writers in an awards night held at The Peninsula Manila Hotel on September 2, 2016 (Friday).

On its 66th year, Palanca Awards received entries in 20 categories (minus the Novel and Nobela categories), which was judged by 57 respected writers, practitioners, and academics.

CineMet features Brillante Mendoza Exhibition at MET Museum | September 5 to October 1, 2016


Internationally-acclaimed Filipino director Brillante Mendoza will be featured in the first of a series of exhibitions lined up in the last quarter of the year to celebrate the Metropolitan Museum of Manila’s 40th anniversary. The exhibition will be on view from September 5 to October 1, 2016.


About The Exhibition
Brillante Mendoza: A Contemporary Filipino Filmmaker will showcase the full length films, documentaries and other productions like television commercials that have made Mendoza the celebrated filmmaker that he is today. This will be complemented by film posters and video production equipment that the director himself designed and utilized in his work. Curated by Prof. Leo Abaya, this exhibition is organized in partnership with SM and Center Stage Productions, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), Epson Philippines, PowerMac Station, Max's Restaurant and Manny O Wines.
