The 6th GSIS Annual Art Competition submission day

This is the first time I bravely joined the 6th GSIS Annual Art Competition, submitting my works on April 17, 2010 at the GSIS Museum in Pasay City. For the past years, I was dominated by fear and intimidation because so many excellent artists all over the country have been joining this competition. GSIS Annual Art Competition gives the highest cash prizes in the country today - P1.9M.

The competition was known as the GSIS Painting Competition since 2005 and only had 1 category: Painting, and was only open to Representational (or what we call the Realist) paintings. In 2009, the Painting category was broken into two groups: Representational and Non-Representational. This year 2010 opened a third category: Sculpture

As early as 6-7:00 am, some artists coming from very far-away provinces (in Luzon, Visayas & Mindanao regions) have already lined up their works for submission. I arrived at around 10:30 am and the lines were long already. I was laboring on my works during that week that is why I wasn't able to attend the 2-day sessions of iBlog6: The 6th Philippine Blogging Summit held at UP-Diliman on April 16-17, 2010.

My entry (#90) for the Non-Representational Painting category is entitled "The Shapes of Grass."

My entry (#12) for the Sculpture category is entitled "Connections."

Cash Awards for the winners in each of the three (3) categories:
1st Prize    -    P 300,000.00
2nd Prize    -      200,000.00
3rd Prize    -      100,000.00

Honorable Mentions will receive P10,000 : 5 winners for Painting (Representational) and 5 winners for Painting (Non-Representational).

The 6th GSIS Annual Art Competition Awards Night and Opening Exhibition will be held on June 7, 2010 at 6:00 pm at the GSIS Theater/ Museum. It is located near World Trade Center in Pasay City and very near Dream Theater (formerly known as the Film Center). Admission is FREE.
