Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss is Miss World 2014; Miss Philippines in 17th place


Miss South Africa Rolene Strauss was crowned Miss World 2014 which was held at ExCel London Exhibition and Convention Centre on December 14, 2014. Strauss bested other 120 candidates. This is the second biggest roster of candidates ever in the history of Miss World; the biggest of which is Miss World 2013, having 127 candidates in all. Miss Hungary Edina Kulcsar won as 1st princess, while Miss USA Elizabeth Safrit is the 2nd princess.
This is the 3rd time that South Africa has won the Miss World title.


Hosted by Tim Vincent and Miss World 2013 Megan Young, this is the 64th edition of the pageant. This is Tim's third time to host the global contest. Co-hosting with them is Mister World Canada 2013 Frankie Cena.

Judges include Donna Darby, Jodie Reynolds, Marsha-Rae Ratcliffe, Mike Dixon, Rudy Salles, Tony Hatch, Agbani Darego (Miss World 2001 - Nigeria), Azra Akin (Miss World 2002 - Turkey), Zhang Zilin (Miss World 2007 - China PR), Kaiane Aldorino (Miss World 2009 - Gigraltar) and Miss World CEO & President Julia Morley. Tabulator of scores was Steve Douglas.

Miss World 1994 Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan (India) was recognized for her efforts and advocacies since she won. She won Miss Photogenic in 1994. Aishwarya is a model and award-winning actress in India.

Miss Philippines Valerie Weigmann only finished the 17th spot in the finals.

Miss World 2014 Trivia:
  • Miss Philippines Megan Young is the first and only Miss World to present the show on her final day of reign. Her reign was the second longest ever in history - 1 year, 2 months, 16 days (1 year, 77 days). She was crowned September 28, 2013 and crowned her successor on December 14, 2014.
  • It has been 40 years since the second South African (Anneline Kriel) won Miss World on November 26, 1974. Their first Miss World crown was won in 1958.

Grammy award-nominated and multi-platinum artist Sky Blu, from the super group LMFAO, was the official opening and closing act of Miss World 2014.


Known for his chart-topping global hits "Party Rock" and "Sorry for Party Rocking," Sky Blu will debut his newest single "We Love Girls," setting the tone for the most extravagant Miss World live final to date. The single premiered to a global audience for the first time and subsequently released on iTunes on this same day.

After the crowning of this year’s Miss World, Sky then closed the show with a medley of his smash singles "Pop Bottles" and "Shots" accompanied by live dancers and all the contestants of Miss World.




The second live act was performed by one of the hottest British boy band - The Vamps.

With the first five singles from their debut album, Meet the Vamps, hitting the UK Top 10, and the first four penetrating the coveted Top 5, The Vamps are on the path to global domination. Their smash hit "Somebody to You" which they performed live has already racked up over 40 million views on YouTube. The band will also embark on their first UK headline tour in support of their debut studio album and will play in 14 dates across the country.
