"Maalaala Mo Kaya" (MMK) celebrates 20 years in Philippine Television

Maalaala Mo Kaya (MMK) celebrates its 20th anniversary in Philippine television. MMK is a drama anthology series broadcast on ABS-CBN TV Network hosted by Charo Santos-Concio. It is the longest-running drama anthology in the Philippines and in Asia. A documentary special entitled, MMK Dalawang Dekada was aired on ABS-CBN Channel 2 on September 25, 2011 at 10:45 pm.

MMK 20 Years (Plug #1)

The program’s name was lifted from the song, Maalaala Mo Kaya which was written by Filipino composer Constancio de Guzman. It is the program’s main theme song which was performed by Dulce, and then later on the show used Carol Banawa’s version.

MMK 20 Years (Plug #2)

Watching MMK has been really a weekly habit ever since it started airing on its original Thursday evening slot. Almost all the episodes I've seen really made me cry. It's cathartic to watch a drama show such as MMK. It will really melt your heart! The very first episode aired on May 15, 1991 is entitled "Rubber Shoes" starring Romnick Sarmenta and Vina Morales. Currently, the drama is being shown on Saturday evenings.

Maalaala Mo Kaya (1954) by Sampaguita Pictures

Maalaala Mo Kaya was originally a film in 1954 by Sampaguita Pictures starring Rogelio dela Rosa (Celso) and Carmen Rosales (Pilar). The cast also includes Rosa Mia, Horacio Morelos and Dolphy. I’ve seen this old film being shown on television many years ago. In the video above, Celso mentioned about the title as a song he'd like to compose for Pilar (5:30). Continue watching the video as the lovers sang the song.

In 1994, Star Cinema made also a film of the same title. It was directed by Olivia Lamasan and starred Aiko Melendez, Richard Gomez and Chin-chin Gutierrez.
