11 Fellows to the 51st Silliman National Writers Workshop (April 30-May 18, 2012)

Eleven (11) writers were accepted as fellows to the prestigious 51st Silliman University National Writers Workshop (SUNWW)

The workshop this year runs from April 30 to May 18, 2012 at the Silliman University Rose Lamb SobrepeƱa Writers Village located at the scenic Camp Lookout in the municipality of Valencia. 

SUNWW Director-in-Residence Dr. Rowena Tiempo-Torrevillas released the official announcement on the acceptance of the following:

For Poetry
  • CD Borden (University of San Carlos)
  • Deborah Rosalind Nieto (University of Santo Tomas)
For Fiction
  • Michael Aaron Gomez (Silliman University)
  • Thomas David Chavez (Philippine Normal University)
  • Michelle Abigail Tiu Tan (Ateneo de Manila University)
  • Christian Tablazon (University of the Philippines – Diliman)
  • Timothy James Dimacali (University of the Philippines – Diliman)
  • Ma. Vida Frances Cruz (Ateneo de Manila University)
For Creative Non-Fiction
  • Hazel Meghan Hamile (University of the Philippines – Mindanao)
  • Zendy Victoria Sue Valencia (University of Santo Tomas)
For Drama
  •  Karlo Antonio David (Ateneo De Davao University)
This summer marks the beginning of the “second fifty” of the Writers Workshop as it moves onward from its golden anniversary last year. Dumaguete-based writers Bobby Villasis and Cesar Ruiz Aquino, as well as guest panelists Susan Lara, DM Reyes, Gemino Abad, and Alfred Yuson will be this years’ panel of critics. 

Joining the panel on the second week from May 7-11 is David McKirdy, a Hong Kong-based poet whose book of poems Accidental Occidental was published in 2005. He is the third writer to be invited from outside the country. 

Aside from the 11 students given fellowships, one student from Singapore, Ming Kun, will also be joining the Workshop as guest fellow.

SUNWW is the oldest creative writing program in Asia. It was founded by the late National Artist for Literature Dr. Edith L. Tiempo, along with her husband, the late Dr. Edilberto K. Tiempo.
